Knowing how often we use cell phones, imagine how much energy we could save if we owned cell phones that were eco-friendly? Well, Motorola now makes a phone that is — it’s called the Motorola A45 Ec-Friendly Cellphone. This cellphone is eco friendly for several reasons. Some of them being that the phone is made from recycled materials, and because Motorola works with carbonfund.org to offset carbon emissions. Next time you’re up for a new cell phone, consider looking into this phone that is both innovative and technologically savvy, but also ec0-friendly. Read more below:

Press release:

Motorola, (NYSE: MOT) is launching in Latin America  the MOTOCUBO A45 Eco, a slider format cell phone with QWERTY keypad designed to keep young users connected with their relationship networks. The handset enables easy access to sites like Orkut® and Facebook® 24/7 from any location. Better still, it is priced to fit the young consumer’s pocket.

“Consumers are more and more demanding, looking for full featured cell phones that meet their daily needs. Motorola research shows that access to relationship networks, program downloads and surfing the web are among the most in-demand applications for consumers buying new cell phones, and that is precisely what we are delivering with the MOTOCUBO”, says Rodrigo Vidigal, Marketing director, Motorola Brazil.

“Being in touch with your friends at any time, anywhere, makes everything much more fun and is an essential value for Orkut users. Motorola’s new handset complements the relationship network experience, making access even easier and providing greater mobility for Brazilian internauts, ” says Victor Ribeiro, Product director, Google.

The brand new form factor and white and orange finish give the phone a young and modern look. Cutting edge technology combined with the slider form factor, QWERTY keypad and big display make the MOTOCUBO A45 eco a full-feature communication tool. The cellular phone permits easy configuration of email accounts for different providers and shows SMS messages in conversation format. The handset comes with a 2 MP camera with digital zoom for photo and video capture and enables the user to post images on relationship networks and blogs with just a single touch of a button.

In line with Motorola’s sustainability platform, the MOTOCUBO A45 eco is the company’s second handset made from recycled components. It helps preserve the environment because 25% of the material used in its casing comes from recycled plastic bottles and the handset itself is 70% recyclable.

The MOTOCUBO was submitted to a full life cycle analysis and is certified carbon neutral by Carbonfund.org. Through this partnership Motorola will offset all the carbon emitted in the manufacture, distribution and use of the cellular phone with investments in preservation, reforestation and renewable energy projects.

In addition to social network connectivity and its ecological design, the MOTOCUBO A45 eco has a full set of entertainment features, including MP3 player with 3.5 mm connector slot, FM radio with RDS and sound recorder, as well applications such as MotoID (which recognizes the music playing around the cell phone), Last.fm, Midomi and Google Maps. The handset also comes preloaded with games such as Spore and The Sims 2.

The new Midomi application enables the user to find out the name of a song and the artist by just singing or humming part of the tune, and it also plays versions of the same song recorded by other artists [1]. Google Maps has the “My Places” function, providing an online map of the region where the user is with access to thousands of points of interest. The MOTOCUBO comes with a 2 GB memory card, expandable to 32 GB.

“This handset was designed for young people who were born in the digital era and are looking for web and cellular telephone applications that allow them to share photos and information and stay connected the whole time. MOTOCUBO offers all of this in an innovative design with ecological appeal,” Vidigal adds.
